Walk the Rock – Week 4 Results
There are only 11 days left in the challenge. If you’re losing a little steam please don’t give up and just keep walking because every step counts. Looking to mix things up a bit? Check out the following activities for a few fun different ways to get your steps in.
A few ways to step it up!
- Pick your own strawberries at Bartlett’s Farm. Walk the fields and be rewarded with the most delicious and nutritious treat. Daily from 8:00am to 5:00pm
- Take a Nantucket Walkabout hike. Learn about Nantucket’s natural history while accumulating your steps. There are a variety of hikes to choose from and the average number of steps is listed in the description of each tour.
- Join Brant Point Runners at the corner of Easton St. & North Beach Street every Tuesday at 5:15pm for a timed 5K as either a walk or a run. This is a great way to continue to meet other partners/friends in health and to keep moving after this challenge ends.
- Register to compete or to volunteer for the Nantucket Iron Teams Relay to benefit Mentoring Youth Nantucket. This is always a fun event that will take place this Sunday at 10:00am.
- Walk the ‘Sconset Bluff Walk and end at the Sankaty lighthouse for a tour. Sunday, June 19th from 11:00am – 3:00pm
Walk the Rock – Week 3 Results
We are over the hump with the completion of week three. With a little less than three weeks to go it’s time ramp things up a bit and finish strong. To help you meet your goals join us this Sunday, June 12th at 9:30am for a community walk through Sanford Farm. We will meet at 9:15 in the main parking lot and then head out on a loop of your choice – the northern loop, the barn walk, or a walk to the ocean.
All are welcome to join and you do not have to be a participant in the Walk the Rock Walking Challenge to join us on Sunday.

Finding health in movement
Sitting is the new smoking…. We have gone from a lifestyle of constant movement to one of inactivity. Not too long ago we lived in a society where we grew our own food, hand scrubbed our own clothes, pumped and hauled our own water, and walked anywhere we needed to go. Flash forward 100 years and we spend most of our day sitting in a car, on the sofa, or at a desk and push buttons to complete the tasks that our ancestors had to exert a significant amount of energy to complete.
